Experimental Study on the Shear Strength of Silt Treated by Xanthan Gum during the Wetting Process

Traditional materials such as fly ash and lime are generally used to improve soils but can severely pollute the environment. Eco-friendly protocols, application of xanthan gum, therefore essential for soil treatment. In this study, a series microscopic tests, water retention characteristics shear tests were carried out on silt, which known have poor engineering properties, explore effect mechanism gum treatment strength silt during wetting process. The results show that capacity treated increases with increasing content, hysteresis is clearly observed. cohesion internal friction angle strongly decrease significantly weakens. However, consistently higher than untreated silt. pores gradually filled by good water-retaining thus enhancing capacity. Furthermore, hydrogel cements particles forms bonding effects between particles, greatly improves strength.
